I wouldn't let these guys touch my house again even if they paid me.

Work performed: Removed old roof and installed new roof.

The good news first: I asked every contractor I interviewed if I needed a new roof. They all were vague except for Alpine who said I could still get by for years. The basic workmanship was fairly good. I'd give them a B and only that low because one of the valleys wasn't as straight as it should be. I believe the workers were well experienced.

The bad news is with the management. It took 2 months to replace my roof and another month to complete the trim work. Work started Aug 3 and did not complete until Nov 3, 2009. First they ripped the old roof off. THEN they discovered they had to order special mold drip because I told them I wanted it to be brown (this was told to the salesman during the initial quote process). That took 2 weeks during which the house sat with nothing but tar paper on it. They then ran out of roofing material 2 times. Each time they had to order material, the house would sit for 2 or more weeks. My guess is every time they ran out of material, the workers would go another complete roof before they came back.

It was beginning to appear that they weren't going to finish before the weather got too bad and I was actually forced to start discussing my options with a lawyer (the first snow came just a few weeks after they were finally done). Fortunately they got their act together before I had to resort to firing them and bringing in another contractor, but I am still out some legal fees as well.

In multiple, unhappy, discussions with the owner he would invariably blame someone else. First it was the workers - he didn't know where they were because they should be here. In my discussion with the workers, they were working other jobs during the 6 weeks of inactivity. Then he blamed the materials company for taking so long to get the material. Well, I ended up buying some spare shingles from them and I got them in a week. Then he blamed the heat. Yes, there were some hot weeks. But when the workers were actually on the job during such weather, they would work until noon, then come back after 6.

At the end of the project I demanded what amounted to a 4% discount for failing to comply with the contract, specifically "the job would be completed in a timely manner". Of the 3 roofs replaced in the immediate vicinity, 2 were done in less than 2 weeks and one took about a month. Two months is completely outside of timely. The owner then blamed God. The problems were all an act of god and those weren't covered by the contract. At this point I was so flabbergasted I decided the best thing to do was pay him to get him out of my hair, then make sure others know about his poor management skills. It certainly did not occur to him that he did a poor job estimating materials and promptly getting a crew back out to my house as soon as the materials were available.

Some other issues: They 1/2 removed the garage roof and then quit because they hit a problem for which they didn't have tools. They tarped the roof and of course it rained fairly hard that evening. Part of my garage was doused when it leaked thru a tarp with a hole in it. Fortunately not the part with dry wall. There was also incessant profanity between the workers. I'm no prude but there are kids all around my house the they sat up there cussing like sailors at each other.

Good grief.

As I said, I wouldn't let these guys touch my house after 3 months of b.s. If you are going to use them, I strongly suggest that you require they put a reasonable completion date into the contract. I certainly learned my lesson and I won't sign any open ended contract again.

I used Alpine Construction for a remodeling job in my home and it was the worst experience ever. Not only did they not finish what was in the contract but none of my trim in my home matches, they used caulking above the trim and smeared it all over the wall which I was not aware that people used caulking for trim. And then the top it off the project boss started hitting on me and when he was...

Thank you for your great work on our roof, front patio & for our new deck. We finally got the deck painted & it looks beautiful. It was a great hit at our family get togethers! We have & will recommended you to our friends. Thank you again D&A

We find this past customer very interesting. He was adamant on installing a special order product against our suggestion. The only truth to this post is, yes we did run short of material on two different occasions. This individual has done everything in his power to post negative, untruthful comments everywhere. There are always two sides to every story. Please remember anyone can post anything...

We have used Alpine Construction for a variety of projects since 1989! Roofing, hardwood floors, window repair, bathroom remodel - you name it they have done an excellent job for us! They have even responded after hours to repair damage and secure our home after a break in that occurred while we were away.

My family has been using Alpine Construction since 1989. They have done everything from hardwood floors, remodels, window repair and a couple of full roofs - including a tear off. They even came to our house after hours and repaired and secured our home after a break in. We were out of town and didn't know what to do - so we called Darius and he sent a man out there immediately to secure and...
