In 1993 Brad and Veva were working at Embarko Restaurant. Brad was a frustrated chef, and Veva was a frustrated artist and line cook. Both shared the dream of a restaurant where the food was great, the service attentive, and the atmosphere magical, where the employees were interesting and kind people, who were encouraged to be themselves and honestly offer a great dining experience. On...

Firefly’s cooking is inventive but free of big city pretensions. The giant firefly sculpture above the entrance and the eclectic art collection add the dash of whimsy needed to bridge the divide between sophisticated intentions and neighborhood sentiment. Premium ingredients from produce to meat shore up a well-meaning menu that could be considered a mixed bag in a higher-profile environment....
Neighborhood fave for over a decade. Cozy-cool setting with canopied ceilings and calming earth tones. Shrimp and scallop potstickers are the sine qua non starter. "Fried Chicken of Your Dreams" with mash & gravy, braised osso buco, grilled halibut all winners. But don’t take our word for it: “All Our Meat Comes From Happy, Never Mad, Drug Free Animals; no Hormones, Antibiotics or Crack...

A metal firefly flickers above the door of this quintessential neighborhood gem. Inside the cottage-like nook, a cream-colored canopy tents the ceiling of both dining rooms,...
Grant it it was Valentines Night but we felt rushed and un appreciated form the start. The service was not great and lacked knowledge of a basic menu. We LOVE Firefly. Absolutely our favorite restaurant in all of SF, and it's right in our own neighborhood.
Food and service was all very good. It has a casual and comfortable neighborhood atmosphere. Conversation was not too difficult. Wine was a bit on the expensive side.
Firefly has become our default choice for birthdays and special occasions. Everything on the menu always sounds great, which makes it hard to choose. They think through the wine-pairings when you want that. Service is always friendly and knowledgeable.
It was fine, but they asked if we would be willing to vacate our table to make room for another party. We had just ordered dessert. I have never been asked this before, and I found the experience awkward and unpleasant. If left a bad taste.
We serve food that, more often than not, accesses that part of our deepest soul where genuine expression can flow forth. We have always tried to give our food and service our best selves, as honest and vulnerable as we can muster. We strive to be a place where you might actually have a real connection; maybe with your server, maybe with your food or maybe with your possibly dorky host who is...

Arrive a few minutes before your reservation -- street spots are typically easy to find in this residential 'hood.
For $34, enjoy your choice of any appetizer, entree, dessert, and coffee or tea (Sun-Thu).
Couples should request the tucked-away table near the auxiliary entrance. Throw pillows and a bench-for-two make for a cozy experience.
