When you’ve got it, you’ve got it. Such is the case at Michael Taus’ longtime, off-the-beaten-path restaurant with an amazing wine cellar and food to match. You may order à la carte, but trust the vegetarian menu, five-course menu or seven-course chef’s menu. Dishes walk the line between all-out formal and comforting --- take the lovely, soul-satisfying duo of roasted halibut and pork belly...

Zealous gets serious style points for its dining room, an industrial space with high ceilings and exposed brick walls softened by rich eggplant and olive upholstery, hardwood... Pros + great setting Cons - can be inconsistent

Sad that I did not get to eat there.
The building is being remodeled, probably into a new restaurant.
This place is amazing. Wide open, contemporary and amazing food. We had appetizers, salad, and the main course I had was scallops. They were the largest scallops I have ever eaten, and they were delicious. Our desserts were amazing, and it came with basil ice cream. Sounds strange, but it really was a refreshingly different twist on ice cream. A...
I have been to Zealous several times over the past two years. The wait staff, food, presentation and surprises are great. However, after three visits the magic is gone. The menu is static.
The restaurant is slightly off the beaten path and the same old food isn't going to enticing me to return.
zealous is quite good--in a fairly contemporary buildout, and an almost traditional cooking style-- fine ingredients, carefully prepared and plated, appetizing with interesting--not quite traditional but not nouveau or shocking combinations. on the night we were there recently the room was 3/4 filled--an older and fairly quiet crowd. the food was good, the service good, the prices in line with...
I like this restaurant because there is never too many people here, and you get the attention you deserve. The food is decent (although I wouldn't give it a Michelin star), and the service is very good. The cocktails are well prepared. Overall I would recommend it as a relaxing place with good food and service.
After 10 years in Chicago, Zealous Restaurant remains as innovative as ever. Chef Michael Taus continues to showcase contemporary American dishes inspired by seasonal ingredients at this River North mainstay.
