Wilson Castle

Completed in 1867, this 32-room mansion was built over the course of eight years by a Vermonter who married a British aristocrat. Within the opulent setting are 84 stained-glass windows (one inset with 32 Australian opals), hand-painted Italian frescoes, and 13 fireplaces. It's magnificently furnished with European and Asian objets d'art.

Probably the most dysfunctional place we have been to almost makes it worth seeing again. Turned in to the joke of the trip in that regard memorable

the castle is in renovations and they are raising money through events. the building is sound but the condition of the walls and ceilings needs repairs. easy to get to - but not well advertised. a worthwhile visit ..

If you decide to visit Wilson Castle, try to look past the falling bricks and peeling plaster. This place has the most beautiful stained glass windows, amazing woodwork and art.

Repairs proceeding slowly

This castle is cool, but it IS over 100 years old. It's weathered and a little rough around the edges. It IS undergoing renovations, but keeping that in mind it IS still an amazing place to see and tour. Just walking up from the driveway, or seeing it from route 3 across the valley, its a real sight to see....
