Easy to get to, if you are staying downtown, this is a great area for quaint and eccentric shops and some great restaurants. During the summer, the park itself is a lot of fun and afterwards there are more than a few restaurants with outdoor seating from where you can people watch - and that can be fun around here.
I love Wicker Park...the fountain is a wonderful centerpiece...they have beautiful gardens that they take great care of...they have fun things going on all year...I love their BooPalooza for Halloween....WickerMic an outdoor open mic they have over the summer....they have movies in the park...they have a Farmers Market in the warmer weather on Sundays...they have a day camp for kids...
Looking to experience a big city neighborhood, we jumped off the subway and landed in Wicker Park. We immediately fell in love with this part of Chicago. The unique shops and restaurants, the fascinating people, the hustle & bustle, the architecture of the old buildings, everything about this neighborhood spoke to my husband, teenage daughters, and I.
This neighborhood has a cluster of some of the best restaurants (Oiistar, Big Star, Antique Taco, Piece Pizzeria, Wasabi, Dove's Luncheonette, Irazu, Bongo Room, Red Door, Paladar ...) in the city. The area also has bars, theaters, clubs, small shops and art galleries.If you find yourself here on a Sunday, then there is also a nice farmer's market at Wicker...
Very nice quaint area with really cool shops boutiques laid back atmosphere good food nice alternative to Magnificent Mile if you like to shop, walk and enjoy the scenery.
