I was with this practice for 2 children and left for good when my youngest was 3 months after a few straws broke the camel's back. Here we go:
1. While in the hospital after delivering my first, the doc came in and asked about breast feeding. I told him the baby was nursing great and for about 15 minutes per side. He quickly said, "Oh no. I would not recommend more than 5 minutes per side." Worst thing ever was my baby crying his head off bc he was still hungry! One of the nurses was shocked about him giving such incorrect advice. "He should know better."
2. The nurse in the Lakewood office gave my son an extra vaccine! When I called the office, the doc
Reacted more defensive than anything telling me that he could understand how that would happen.
The nurses smell like smoke.
3. When telling one of the female docs that my 6 mo old son slept in our bed, she snarky said, "when are you going to let him go, when he goes to college?"
4. Even though I was told that they will work with you on spacing vaccines, this was not the case. They put the fear of God in us and basically forced us into giving the flu shot to our infant son after we told them we decided not to give it to him.
5. The last straw was at my daughter's 3 month visit- the doc angrily yelled at me for wanting to space the vaccines. No exaggeration. She told me that it would put her at risk for vaccine delay. I caved and allowed them to give the insane amount recommended by the aap.
Later that night, my daughter began screaming and crying inconsolably for 2 hours! She was arching her back and obviously in pain. We could not console her or calm her at all! I called the service and they told me that this was "common" and to give her Tylenol. Well, this was when they redid the dosage for infant Tylenol and it was very confusing. In a moment of panic, I thought we gave her 3 times what we should have. I called the service and the doc never called me back! I was able to speak with the pharmacist who reassured me that we administered the correct dose.
This practice is like a factory. Overall, some of them are very nice and some are good, but way too many horrible experiences. I think it is unacceptable for a trusted doctor to impose their personal opinion on vulnerable new parents. To give bad breastfeeding advice is unacceptable, but all the other issues I had there were negligent and egregious.
I switched when my baby was two months old because the doctors are willing to spread out the vaccinations. We are going every few weeks. The first time we went, I could not get over how rude & nasty the front desk lady was, wow. I said to myself, if the doctor isn't outstanding, we are outta here. Well, thankfully, the two doctors I have seen so far are great. But, we have been there four times so far, and the first front desk lady I have dealt with is the head ***** & the others are not far behind. I can not believe how rude & unprofessional these women are. If were my business, I would have a fit. They make their probelms of how things are run your problem. I mentioned to the doctor that they seem "a little stressed" and she laughed & rolled her eyes, so I think the doctors are aware of the situtation. I will see how this goes. As long as my baby gets good care, that is all I care about. I am willing to put with these rude ladies. I have to stop being rude back or they aren't going to give me appointments when he is sick. Because at the end of the day, they have the power.
Despite what others say I love westpark peds they are always great with my 2 1/2 yr old that can be a hand full. Sometimes you have to wait awhile but what pediatric office don't you have to wait .
I have just recieved a phone call from the front desk help. I did miss my sons appointment and was deeply sorry for that. Life happens and for some more than others. However, the woman that called me did so JUST to tell me how much it ****** her off and the doctor. HONESTLY? She then proceded to ask me if I would like to cancel my daughters appointment. Well you may as well just said "you are no longer welcome here, take your kids somewhere else." I am sorry but if you are doing SO well as a business in this economy that you dont care about your clients... then so be it. I do not want to be CARED for at such a place nor would I EVER take my child to be cared for at such a place. If those doctors are as nice as some say then I would certainly hope they are just un-aware of the flat out disregard for their patients that is going on at the front desk or where ever these people reside.. Pediatricians are a dime a dozen, do yourself a favor and keep shopping.
