The stores are price shoppig to get you the lowest price. If all Wal-Marts had the same prices you would end up paying too much. In our area I know which of the 4 Wal-Marts has the best price shoppers and competition.
One of the stores has no real competition so all their prices are set at wal-mart corp prices.
We get these all the time as I work in the electronics area. Our standard response to this now consists of guiding the customer over to our in store online kiosk. Once there, we pull up the item. We then click on the "locate in store" button next to the items price. This is h ardly a ripoff. As the previous posts state online stores differ from the brick and mortor stores. You also need to realize there is often shipping and handling charges, which many times if you actually look at the total price of what y ou are paying there is no difference.
It is all about price comparison just as you would at ANY store, on line or otherwise. It is not a ripoff...
