I initially attended UNO 1979-1980 to take courses to improve my grade average (long story) in order to go to graduate school at LSU-BR. Each and every class was taught by professors who felt intensely about their subjects. There was a sense that the university's mission was to encourage the students to prepare themselves to go out into the world, and make a difference.

UNO is Louisiana's most under-rated university. The academic standards are very high. Some people knock UNO because it isn't Tulane, but the irony is that many of the professors at Tulane also teach at UNO... and you pay a fraction of the price for the same class.
