Toro Toro Restaurant Review

Richard Sandoval’s Toro Toro is his most glamorous and adventurous DC restaurant to date. It combines Latin American fare upstairs (with late-night dancing) and an opulent lounge downstairs where select Latin performers take the stage. But for the foodie in us all, settling down to a long night of feasting is what makes Toro Toro so attractive. The lengthy menu presents decision-making...

Backlit onyx panels cast an amber glow while animal hides, copper tiles and iron grills lend a modern gaucho feel to chef-restaurateur Richard Sandoval’s South and Central American concept in the InterContinental Hotel on MacPherson Square. Scrumptious food! Excellent service! Great music! We came back to this restaurant after the first time, encouraged by a coupon on a drink. We kept discovering new tapas, delicious food, and had a great time! We will come back for sure!

Food was ok. Grilled shrimp could've had more flavor. The plantains were delicious. Portions small. Disappointed that happy hour drink prices only available with bar seating downstairs. Hostesses could've been friendlier. Service staff were great.

This is a terrific find! I went for a light supper of tapas but the $49 all-you-can-eat deal was too good to pass up. The selections were varied with each dish hand-crafted in preparation and presentation. I focus on texture in dishes and I was not disappointed -- crispy quinoa in the ceviche, varied veggies and chicken in the corn broth soup, creamy goat cheese with the beets and walnuts, etc.
