Tilth Restaurant Review

Chef Maria Hines was ahead of her time when she opened this restaurant devoted to all things seasonal, regional and organic. The neighborhood bistro could very well be "the house next door," located as it is in a charming Craftsman-style building, formerly a single-family home. The small, candlelit dining room is painted in shades of green and yellow that glow at sunset. Innovative dishes have...

A certified organic restaurant by the much-lauded Maria Hines, Tilth serves up wonderful, inventive dishes that can be had as small plates or full entrées—the mini-duck burgers, seasonally inspired risottos, and wild salmon deserve special mentions. It's not the sort of place you'd expect to find on Wallingford's busy commercial strip: occupying a Craftsman house, it has been lovingly spruced...

At Tilth, you'll feel right at home--someone else's home, that is. The rustic bungalow doesn't resemble your typical restaurant. No host stand to speak of, a flickering fireplace, and drapes that crest each window. Chef Maria Hines pays close attention to her dishes' building blocks. Most everything on the menu is constructed from organic parts, Menu changes monthly and is heavy on the vegan...

Tilth is one of the nation's only restaurants to receive organic certification from Oregon Tilth (an organization that sets organic standards), but don't confuse organic with granola-crunchy hippie food. Chef Maria Hines, one of Seattle's most creative chefs, oversaw the kitchen at the W Seattle's acclaimed Earth & Ocean before opening this restaurant in a little cottage in Wallingford. The...

Set in an old Craftsman bungalow, Tilth is as unassuming as Seattle itself. But here, Earth & Ocean alum Maria Hines turns out certified organic cooking for the masses. The spare, pastel interior produces a spa-like environment where diners’ only focus is a menu of dishes available in small, shareable plates or as entrées. Fresh herbs and select dairy products play as large a role in...

We did the five course tasting menu, which featured some very nice plates. The seared char and beet risotto stood out as excellent dishes.

The atmosphere was great and the staff were very friendly however I felt the tasting menu was overpriced for the quality of the food. While I still enjoyed the meal I didn't think it was anything fantastic and definitely not worth the price.

We went to celebrate our 25th Anniversary with a special bottle of wine on a rather brisk and chilly day. The place was packed to the gills and a number of parties came in hopefully and left rather crestfallen when there were no available tables. Service was ...measured...but what we had was very tasty and our server was very pleasant. Make no mistake; this is not inexpensive eating, but we...

Tilth is another restaurant gem from Maria Hines. Our dinner was superb - the food was exceptional and the presentation was beautiful. I appreciated that you can order a good number of their wines by the glass or better yet by the carafe. The service is very understated; you get the service you need, when you need it, with no extraneous checking in or hovering. I've long been a fan of Agrodolce...

Chef Maria Hines proves that you can be a good steward of the earth and still delight your palate. Entering the old craftsman bungalow with a rocking chair porch feels like going to a friend's house for dinner. The decor is sparse, but the original leaded glass windows, a brick fireplace and painted green chairs add to its inherent charm. Using only locally sourced and organic ingredients,...
