Editorial reviews from the web (4)

This "trendy" Loop spot sports a neon lightning bolt down the facade and has more of a boutique sensibility than a typical Doubletree, but still offers the trademark "warm cookie at check-in" -- though the real claim to fame is the rooftop bar, a "place to see or be seen" that has a retractable glass enclosure for year-round partying and "tremendous" views (bonus: guests at the hotel “do not...

The atmosphere at this sleek spot, topped by ROOF, one of the Loop's most happening bars around, is fun and youthful, and the rooms are moderately sized and modern, with hanging wall art meant to resemble puckered lips. The hotel announces itself with a massive lightning bolt out front and winged lighting sculptures in the lobby. It's an excellent place to see and be seen; you'd never guess...

This vibrant, fun hotel immerses guests in its urban setting: Two-story-high lobby windows look directly onto a bustling El station. Although it belongs to the Doubletree chain, the Wit has a boutique sensibility: The rooms mix dark wood furniture with orange and blue decorative fabrics, and the popular top-floor bar, Roof, brings a dash of South Beach style to the conservative Loop. (It's...

Designed by Chicago architect Jackie Koo with interiors done by Cheryl Rowley, the Wit holds 238 rooms and enough killer views to make Sears seem superfluous. TheWit not only dislikes spaces in its name, but it also hates letting go of the caps lock key: SCREEN is the luxurious multimedia screening room, ROOF is the ultimate year-round rooftop lounge with fire pits, live music, and (um, sure)...

Fantastic hotel in a great central location

Average Rating

I stay at many hotels each year and every once and awhile you are presently surprised by a new find. TheWit is one of these really cool finds.
It is in the core downtown area near the river, great restaurants and many businesses. The staff were fantastic, provided a nice experience when checking in/out and looking for activities. The lobby,...

We stayed here over the Valentine's Day weekend. I have nothing negative to write about the hotel, but I do not have anything extraordinary to write about it either. The lobby is very small but modern. Check in was quick. The room was not too big or too small. It was clean and modern. We faced the front of the...

Overrated for the Price

Average Rating

The hotel itself is nice and elegant. However, for the price of the hotel I would've expected more. There was nothing special about our room. Our room was on the 26th floor facing another building's brick wall :/ Needless to say, the view was terrible. It was freezing cold in late Chicago December and the room's thermostat didn't go higher...

Valentine's Day Weekened

surprised my girl to a suite and a massage in the spa. She loved everything about the trip. She says the hot stone massage was the best she'd ever had. Everyone from checking in to check out was very polite and personable.

Grand Trip

Stayed here for business but would come back for pleasure. The rooms are decorated nicely and the location is excellent. Rooms are clean and bathrooms are spacious and stocked with awesome products. Staff is nice and accommodating and who doesn't want a warm chocolate chip cookie upon arrival.

Tips about this business (3)

Instead of a ho-hum chocolate on your pillow at turndown, you might return to your room to find a mini Rubik's cube, an old-school paddle-ball game or a bright yellow, light bulb-shaped stress ball awaiting your return, accompanied by cards bearing quotes from famous wits like Benjamin Franklin and Emily Dickinson.

Even if you're not a gym rat, don't miss the fitness center. Trust us, the view of the thundering El train tracks and the iconic Chicago Theatre sign through the wrap-around floor-to-ceiling windows will raise your heart rate.

You'll have no shortage of options for drinking and dining: There's Roof, a hip rooftop lounge; Cibo Matto, Italian fine dining; and State & Lake, a pubby, beer-focused restaurant. Same goes for relaxation. See a movie at Screen, the in-house 40-seat movie theater, or get a massage at Spa at The Wit.
