African decor and a passion for soul music (and its sisters funk, R&B, rap and hip-hop) gave birth to this club, which offers two rooms of dancing and chilling for an in-the-know crowd. The VIP...
I was working as a sound engineer at a venue space across the street from this club when a guy who worked for The Shrine ran across the street and pulled a gun on me for trying to load the...
Zero star. DO NOT GO TO SHRINE. Don't say I didn't warn you.1. Rude bouncers will spit in your face. 2. Cover is 40 bucks no negotiation3. Sardine can inside. Shoulder to shoulder. Inside...
The first time I went to The Shrine was for a Drake after party back in the winter. The first thing I loved about it was the album wall they have when you first walk in. Theres pictures on thier website of it; it's a giant wall that extends through the hall of different album covers of influencial artist. I spent about 20min just starring at it.
The club is beautiful. The whole African motifs are something you don't see in clubs in Chicago.
One thing that keeps me coming back to The Shrine is that no matter if it's a slow night or busy as hell the staff is always on top of their game. I...
I really enjoyed myself at The Shrine on Janurary 8th. The atmosphere was refreshing & the customer service was pretty good but crowd control needs to be more forceful without being rude!!! WGCI was in the building, great music:). Well be back for futher events, is very excited to see Bilal March 5th, one of my favorite soul artists.
I attended the Amel Larrieux show and was pretty disappointed with the organization and professionalism of the club's staff.
The doors did not open on time and when questioned the staff was rude and offered no information. They seemed to be under the mis-impression that they were doing paying customers a favor by keeping them waiting in the cold. Once in the club, it was standing room only and the crowd was forced to wait three hours for a thirty-eight minute concert.
There is also a sign outside the club reminding its patrons to be ""regal"". This note seems particularly...

The venue is separated into two sides, one reserved solely for the DJs and dance floor, each night offering different genre of club beats to get down to, and another side for live acts like Pete Rock, Jazzy Jeff and Questlove. VIP bottle service can be arranged beforehand if you're out for a big night or...

"All kinds of characters" frequent this "on-point" Near South Sider, a "memorable" dance club that attracts notable DJs and musicians across hip-hop, house and soul genres; VIP seating appeals to high rollers, while "friendly" service enhances the experience for all; P.S. fourth Thursday of the month is a gay and lesbian night.

On the first Thursday of the month, during the Eyes Wide Shut event, live popular music act the Platinum Pied Pipers hits the disco room. All other Thursdays, resident DJ Jesse De La Pena cranks up the groove with hip-hop, rap, soul and R&B. Expect a crowd as diverse and eclectic as the rotating menu of music.
The more you go, the easier it becomes to earn VIP membership that equates to waived cover and express entrance to the VIP lounge. Show the love.
The Coup D'Etat lounge is the place to chill with your friends over cocktails. Afterwards, shake a tail feather on the dance floor in the disco area.
Dress code is casual chic, so put together an outfit that impresses through understatement.
