What the community has to say about The Empty Bottle

Information about this business (4)

n 1992 the Empty Bottle started out as a cat-ridden hole-in-the-wall bar in Ukrainian Village (just south of Wicker Park) wh...ere you could get any one of nine beers for a buck-fifty or less, play pool for 50 cents, and find everything from Monster Magnet to Bill Monroe on the jukebox. On Halloween of 1993, we moved two blocks up the street and threw open the doors to our new, sound-equipped,...

Bands both local and national play every night of the week in this dank, nondescript bar. Cheap booze is served, and at ...

We've been anything but empty since our great first year, thanks to the same low prices, lack of attitude, and dedicated regulars that made the original bar such a success.

"Cheap" tickets for "stellar" indie acts – with "punk rock–priced" drinks to match – make this "old" and "grungy" but "still-hip" Ukie Village haunt a "favorite"; a couple of curmudgeons complain the "small" room "needs an update", but most don't mind "slumming it" for "the best music you never heard of."

Fortunately the only thing that sucks at this Chicago institution showcasing the likes of Acid Mothers and Temple is the bar service, but only because it's a 2:100 ratio of bartenders to drinkers. It's an easy fix, just order three rounds at a time and save everyone the hassle. The cheap prices more than make up for it, not to mention their always impressive roster of talented, up-and-coming...

This alternative-rock club in the Ukrainian Village neighborhood -- south of Wicker Park -- is a haven for young arty scenesters drawn here for camaraderie, obscure bands, and cheap beer. Offerings are diverse, with live music every night, ranging from experimental jazz-pop and electronica to "hard country honky tonk" (specifically, the country-infused Hoyle Brothers, who play an early set...

Hole-in-the-wall from heaven, featuring local and national musical talents and cheap drinks.

Empty Bottle's a destination for explorers of jazz and out-there rock from Chicago and beyond, plus dance/DJ fans; owner Bruce Finkelman has a reputation for gutsy programming. At this combination...

Oh the Empty Bottle. I've now been here plenty of times, and still love the venue with all my heart. They have a cute photobooth in the front room, which is nice to force a friendly musician into, or just commemorate an excellent night out with friends (infinitely better than instagrams and snapchats). There's a …

Legit good music goes down here!! Snuck over to this spot on a Sunday night and enjoyed myself a ton. Music got me in the door and the cheap drinks got me out of my seat. They have beer and a shot combos for $6. They change each day so you can get drunk with a little variety in your life. I like that!! It's a …

I have been going to the Empty Bottle regularly since 2009. 99% of the times I've been to the Empty Bottle have been for Honky Tonk Happy Hour, free, 5:30-7:30pm on Fridays. I have seen this event become increasingly popular over the years. There is a regular following; you will often see the …

One of my all time favorite joints to catch some really good local bands. If u like old school grimmy as hell places and Real music spots throw this one on your list. I've been coming here for many years and nothing has changed and I hope it never does!

I've been goin' to Bruce's Empty Bottle practically since it opened, and at least half of my good memories of seeing rock shows took place there, so if you think I'm gonna say anything bad about it, you got another think comin'. It's still an amazing place to see a show, with an open floor, a great sound system, …
