TTM occupies a 40 acre site in the north-east of San Antonio just north of the International Airport. It has a full sized operating railroad with a half mile of mainline and offers scheduled train rides, included in admission. It has a number of classic vehicles including a 1924 fire truck which visitors may ride on when conditions on the unpaved roads permit.
Texas Transportation Museum is an all volunteer organization that collects, preserves and displays transportation equipment and related items. We provide an educational and entertaining experience which interprets how developments in transportation technology shaped and continue to impact daily life.
This volunteers that operate this museum are really working hard to renovate and update this attraction. Even without outside monetary support, they have restored the depot and several of the train cars. And there are multiple displays. In addition to the short train ride and pullman cars to tour, there are extensive outdoor and indoor miniature train landscapes set up....
First of, this place is run totally by volunteers. Most of these guys are retired and are model train hobbyists and some were actually train engineers. They have always been nice to us and my sons (both under five) love going. We even bought a season pass one year and went every Sunday. This is not a fancy place, but...

We took our children, to get the kids out of the house. The place looked like it had been nice at one time, but neglected for way to long. It was old and run down. I expected so much more from this place.... we paid 8 bucks a person to get in and nothing worked! It was a self guided tour.
