Since 1989 the Ko family has been in the restaurant business...formerly Charming Wok and Charming Cuisine. This new incarnation is hip and slightly swank in the up and coming south loop area. The comfortable casual interior is welcoming.

Editorial reviews from the web (2)

An “extensive” selection of midpriced Pan-Asian dishes from “solid” sushi to design-“your-own stir-fry” plus “lots of” noodle dishes means this bamboo-walled South Looper has something for “almost everyone”; service is generally “efficient”, and there’s a summer patio; P.S. Wednesday nights cater to singles (‘come alone, dine together’) from 7:30 to 10 PM.

Editorial Review

Curries, noodle dishes, teriyaki and sushi constitute some of the Pan-Asian classics at this Columbia College restaurant.

Maitre'D was rude on a Friday night. Seats by kitchen are loud with music blaring. Drinks and wait staff are superb. Sushi very good. The tamarind roll was unique but bland. The other rolls were pretty and tasty. Overall a good not great sushi place. Not too overpriced.

Good food plain and simple

The Mushu pork was excellent. We also had duck stir fry, crab Rangoon and sushi all of it was extremely good. The service was very slow even though the place was nearly empty. I thought this was a great value and will definitely be back.

Waitstaff needs help

Food was generally good & inexpensive. Service was terrible. We to hail our waiter to order drinks. We had to ask a 2nd time for the drinks to be brought to our table. Soups arrived AFTER the entrees. One dish never was brought and we had to ask for it. The wait staff could not understand English and mixed up our orders. We had to chase down our waiter to pay the bill.

Calming accents of bamboo pave the way for an Asian menu that includes Chinese, Japanese, and Vietnamese items. Sip on refreshing lemon-cucumber water while enjoying dishes (entrees around $13) such as sushi, lemongrass beef, and curry dishes. Tamarind is open daily for lunch and dinner. -
