We are a historic train town located on the South Branch of the Patapsco River. We have the 2nd oldest train station in the country which is now a full service fine dining restaurant. We are a National and Maryland Main Street and listed on the National Register for Historic Places.

In 1825, George Patterson sold 1000 acres of the Springfield Estate to a business associate, James Sykes of Baltimore, the man for whom Sykesville is named. One tract of land on the Howard County side of the Patapsco River contained an old combination saw and grist mill.
