The California Academy of Sciences contains the Natural History Museum, the Steinhart Aquarium, the Morrison Planetarium and many other facilities in one area. The academy was established in 1853 and was the first such institute in the western United States.
The Aquarium houses thousands of live animals and features a coral reef tank, penguin tanks, snake alley and personal interaction with habitats and staff.
