What the community has to say about St. James Cathedral

Information about this business (2)

The virtual home of the Episcopal Cathedral in Chicago for our friends, neighbors, visitors, and the people of St. James!

Home to a vibrant and inclusive congregation of its own, St. James is also the "Mother Church" of the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago and the second-parish-home for every Episcopalian in Northern Illinois.

The service insert was...

Business description (2)

The people of St. James seek to be a Church for the 21st century. We cherish diverse expressions of belief and practice as we grow into an authentic faith.

Parts of this cathedral date back to before the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Most of the church, however, was gutted in the blaze, but the walls and the bell tower date back to its 1857 incarnation. Besides being the oldest Episcopal church in the city, the church is also noted for a very famous visitor. In 1860, Abraham Lincoln visited the church the day after he was elected President. Most...
