Very cool place

Average Rating

We went to the Sports Museum during our first visit to NYC. Our kids loved it. There were several interactive exhibits that kept even the non-sports enthusiasts entertained. And the sports lovers had a blast seeing all the memorabilia and facts about their favorite sports and athletes. Definitely a very cool place to visit.

Must see!

This museum is a must see for fans of all types of athletic competition. I expected the museum to be small and boring at first? boy was I wrong! The museum has something for fans of sports, triumph and human achievement. You can see memorabilia like David Tyree?s New York Giant?s Super Bowl helmet and the Knick?s jersey Willis Reed limped out on the court in! For those who got hooked on the Olympics this summer there are great displays on Phelps, the 1996 U.S. gymnastics team, the 1992 ?Dream Team,? and my personal favorite? the 1980 U.S. men?s hockey team. If you are coming to New York...

Best Museum in the City

Being a huge basketball fan I found this museum to be extremely entertaining. As a college student it is almost impossible for me to get to the hall of fame in Ohio, and this was absolutely the next best thing. In the museum I viewed extensive NBA memorabilia, including the Knick’s jersey Willis Reed limped onto the court in during...

History you get to touch

This place was GREAT. I went down to the museum just after it opened, and they literally have something to suit everyone. While I was there I saw a family including a captivated grandma and a newborn, all having a blast (although the newborn probably didn't really care much about Lance Armstrong's jersey or the Bulls' championship rings). I really like that the museum is also home to the women's sports hall of fame, and as a kid I wore out my ""League of Their Own"" VHS, so it was great to see the exhibit on the actual league. The great thing about the museum is that you actually get to...

Pleasantly impressed

I only visited SMA because a group of friends came into town who wanted to check it out. I was not that excited to go, as sports in general are not my thing-but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I was incredibly impressed with the amount of detail that went into each exhibit it. The informational displays capture all different type of information and I did not feel that any one sport over took the majority of the museum. My favorite parts of the museum were the interactive. My 7 year old nephew, who I took to the museum a few weeks after my initial visit, still talks about...
