As a former Loss Prevention Manager of Shopko, I can assure you there are NOT cameras above every register. We (LP Personel) used to have to run the cable and hook up the camera, IF there was a suspected sheft proble. Shopko processes checks electronically as do most stores these days. They only way they could redo the transaction would be to do a cash refund and then have the customer rewrite a check for $15 over the purchase amount. Even though the customer wrote the original check for $15 over it was processed for only the purchase amount so only the purchase amount would come out of the customers...
Shopko's policy is to allow a customer to write a check for $15 above the purchase amount and receive cash back. On occasion, a cashier has told the customer she had entered an incorrect key which made the check for the amount of purchase and therefore could not give the $15 cash back. She refused do redo the transaction.
