Wood paneling, muted lighting, and well-spaced tables make for an elegant dining experience in this restored 1879 house. The menu, which changes seasonally, has a regional flavor. The food is intricately styled so that colors, textures, and tastes fuse. Previous standouts have included pan-roasted sea scallops served with grits and applewood-smoked bacon and five-spiced duck confit with green...

Second Empire Restaurant Review

Among the most elegant restaurants in the city, Second Empire occupies a restored “Second Empire Victorian” mansion. Refined details include an ornate hand-carved staircase and white linen-draped tables set with Christofle and Villeroy & Boch, and chef Daniel Schurr lives up to the high expectations the atmosphere suggests. His menu changes frequently, offering such starters as a butternut...

Second Empire has got to be one of the best restaurants in Raleigh. The food is just plain awesome. The service is great. I am somewhat a food critic and I can honestly say....I could eat here everyday. Now I cant do that on a teachers salary but if I could I would. I highly recommend you give Second Empire a shot!

The food was fantastic as always. I was a little disappointed with the service this visit though.

Usually this is a great stalwart with professional service and excellent cuisine. We have always enjoyed the original menu and service during our past visits. However it is clear they are losing their touch. The service is haughty dripping with condescension. Our waiter Josh was simply awful. Polite in every way but helpful in no way at all. He should not have been tipped. I recognize the...

This place was hands down the nicest and delicious place I have ever ate. Took my girl for valentine's day and she loved every bit of it the originality of the Victorian atmosphere to the delicious meal. Definitely a must place to go.

This continues to be one of the top restaurants in the Triangle. Upstairs dining is quietly elegant and downstairs has more hustle and bustle but the food is spectacular in either setting. An extraordinary menu with amazing appetizer and entree selections and dazzling desserts. My wife and I have eaten at Second Empire many times and are never disappointed. The service is outstanding and the...
