Too Cool For Me

This place seemed like a trendy restaurant but the food was way too overpriced. The food was good (not great) and was not worth the cost.

The ambiance seems like it is meant to be more romantic (*very* dark) but it was extremely loud so how could you talk/listen to your date unless you are shouting at him/her???

okay, but there's better for the $$

They were accomodating to our group of 7, but stuck us in a dark back corner. The food was okay, but pricy for the quality. You're really paying more for the atmosphere. I recommend the oyster shooter in a fascinating kimchee gelee ($1). There's a decent selection of sake, dim lighting, etc.

Saucebox Restaurant Review

Saucebox is equal parts restaurant and dance club. DJs play live programs every weekend, but on any weeknight loud house music infuses every corner, and its location bordering the late-night Old Town club district makes it a good stop before, after, or as part of a club tour. Overall, the mood is modern with crisp white furnishings. A glassed-in liquor cabinet shows off the collection of wine...

While hipsters groove to some of the best DJs in town in the loud club section of this trendy spot, the adjoining Pan-Asian restaurant presents a different vibe. The dining room is serene with crisp white furnishings and light reflected… Read More

Great cocktails, excellent service, and a good mixture of really flavorful options.

This was literally the worst experience that I have ever had at a restaurant. They took our reservation for 6 people for dinner on NYE and when we arrived, informed us that they were no longer serving dinner. We were stunned. They presented us with a "late night" menu of french fries, Brussels sprouts and udon noodles--not exactly the NYE dinner that we were expecting. We ordered a round of...

An early vanguard of Portland nightlife - our first ever bar, it’s said, to attempt informal dress codes - Saucebox shifted focus to fine dining years ago, the upstairs pool table falling to table space, but national attention (NYT, Bon Appetit, Travel & Leisure) concentrates less upon the excellent pan-Asian offerings than bravura mixology.

Save Money: Order the three-course prix fixe and you’ll get refined courses like crispy roasted chicken with a chili-hoisin jus and a chocolate cinnamon ice cream sundae for just $25. Then take your extra cash home, or head to the bar to spend it on cocktails.

When to Go: Late night, when hipsters and music lovers crowd the bar. This hotspot doesn’t wait until the weekend to party: Djs spin until the wee hours nightly.

What to Drink: Whatever your bartender suggests. This is one of the bars that launched Portland’s cocktail scene, and the bartenders know their craft well. That said, if you want a fruity, cheeky drink, order the Poolside with David Hasselhoff.
