There's "nothing crazy or too creative" because "it's all about the fish" at this "steady" Lincoln Park Japanese turning out "pristinely fresh", "spectacular" sushi and other "high-quality" fare via "efficient" servers; the "pleasant" enough decor doesn't inspire the same praise, but it still "can't be beat", especially given such "reasonable prices."

Sai Cafe Restaurant Review

Ask an aficionado where to go for sushi in Chicago, and this crowded, reliable spot just might head the list. Nigiri, maki and hand rolls all are beautifully plated and crafted from generous cuts of ultra-fresh fish. Besides the usual, you'll find novelties like the spicy, creamy tako maki (chopped octopus mixed with fish eggs and spicy sesame mayo) and the Halloween, a creation of wasabi and...

A sushi pioneer in Lincoln Park, fail-safe Sai Café has been serving up well-priced nigiri, maki, hot and cold appetizes and rice dishes in understated atmosphere for almost 20 years. Head in during the week when the conscientious servers aren't too crazed to welcome you to your table with warm pre-meal oshiburi cloths to wipe your face and hands. Great patio-seating in the summer.

Armitage Avenue storefront draws Lincoln Park sushi lovers for fresh rolls in a casual atmosphere.

In Short
Sushi chefs chant behind the bar as they practice their craft, rolling maki and cutting generous slivers of nigiri for the young locals that fill the place. The sushi list...

Been going since 1986 when Sai opened and with the kids since 1995. Excellent every time. Would recommend tekka maki, tempura, vegetable yakisoba, sea bass, teriyaki, sukiyaki , and green tea ice cream. Chef Jim Bee is a great host.

As always, Jimmy never disappoints. Went with the family to celebrate my birthday. Sat at the bar for the first time in over 15 years of dining at Sai Cafe. We all enjoyed watching the master at work. My 8 and 10 year old sons want to work for Jimmy when they grow up. Ann is our requested server because she is attentive and knows exactly what to get for us. We ordered our usual fare (oyster...

Still the best sushi in the Chicagoland area. We started coming to Sai Cafe 16 years ago, and it was a favorite when we lived in the neighborhood. Now that we live in the suburbs, we make special trips in the city just for dinner at this restaurant. The service is outstanding, the team is friendly, and the quality of the fish is exceptional.

My favorite sushi spot. The quality compares to what I have found on the west coast for traditional sushi. The owner greats you and is right there preparing the sushi. Very friendly vibe. You always see regulars and families dining.
