Rumba has the makings of a night on the town, though most people primarily come to dance (or see others dancing). As a result, food takes a back seat---even if the menu supports an occasional standout, like lightly creamy poblano chicken soup topped with crisp potato strips. Many of the offerings are jazzed up with sides of plantains in various guises, plus beans and citrus-based sauces. Go-tos...
Hopping restaurant with lively Latin bands, singers, wandering salsa/merengue instructors, a huge bar and dance floor. As the crowd thickens, the staff hardens, so don't be surprised when the menacing door guy acts you like you just asked him for spare change instead of a table. Decidedly un-Mexican fare can tend towards the simple and bland; try the mofongo, a seafood concoction served on...
Big red upholstered booths, mustard walls, and an exposed wood-beam ceiling set a sophisticated mood in this River North room, where a live band plays Latin jazz for a buzzing crowd of well-to-do,...

Yes, its closed.... Rumba was a landmark for the Latinos of Chicago; the moment you stepped inside, you got the feeling of being on the Caribbean with palm trees and congas and great music, the beautiful décor and the caring staff created a unique ambiance. From Chef Benny’s food to Jairo’s drinks, and then of course a little dancing with...
I wanted to go where we could hear live Latin music while we dined. The atmosphere is very tropical with large booths with red velvet and colorful decorations. It reminds you of the 1950's big ban era with the sense of stepping back into time once you enter the main dining area. The floor seating gets moved back once the...
I've been to Rumba many times -- once with my cousin to celebrate birthdays --and several other times with friends. I love the food, the drinks, the music and the service is friendly and attentive. It's a beautiful space with great music and a nice dance floor. Upscale, mixed clientele and lots of fun. If you can't dance, you can...

This casual American grill has a broad appeal, attracting suburban visitors as well as business people from the River North area, looking to unwind. The dining room and the bar are both large, which makes Hubbard Street a lively, and loud, hangout. Entrees include old favorites, such as barbequed ribs and herb roasted chicken, as well as more unusual options -- try the tuna burger with wasabi...
Delicious food, wonderful ambiance and great music, what more can one ask for? At Rumba , you will never get an opportunity to complain, for this place is vehement when it comes to quality service. Be it the mouth-watering savories like 'Shrimp Colada' and 'El Pescador' or the interesting samba and salsa nights, this place does it with class. Dance and music teamed with good music—if...
A live jazz band plays Latin grooves Friday and Saturday starting at 8:30pm.
Booths are big and comfy, but beware: On busy weekend nights, pro conga players pound away on drums mounted at the end of each booth. Fun and festive, yes, but very noisy if you happen to be sitting in the booth.
On Fridays and Saturdays, there is a $10 cover after 9pm for live music and dancing (waived for patrons who dined prior).
