The Scene
The theme may be Hawaiian, but don't expect leis and piped-in Don Ho records--this roomy River North space is sophisticated and classy, with upholstered chairs and banquettes, crimson-stained tabletops, and… Read More

It seems the "fish have leapt out of the ocean and onto the grill" at this River North rendition of the "upscale" "Hawaiian fusion" chain where dishes are "innovative but not fufu", "presentations are creative" and the "drinks are delectable"; further, the "relaxed" ambiance is "great for conversation" and service is "attentive" so most are left with "no complaints", except for the "pricey but...

Roy's Restaurant Review

Dramatic, dark surroundings set the stage for dishes like tuna poke with inamona jus, truffle oil, avocado and cucumber, while a good selection of wines and saké encourages experimentation. The same is true of the menu, which dips gratifyingly into fish, is creative and supports a range of notable dishes. For fun, try the dim sum-style canoe appetizer with four tastes of Roy's specialties, or...

My dinner at Roy's was one of the worst "fine" dining experiences that I've ever had. My date and I were seated at 8:17pm and we got our entrees nearly two hours later. We got the check at 10:24pm, after just an appetizer and entree. We ordered everything at once, relatively soon after sitting down as we were both hungry. At no point had we been warned that the kitchen was behind or had an...

Roy's is one of our favorite restaurants in Chicago. This visit was as good if not better than the previous. The entire experience was exceptional. The poke appetizer, Seabass and Seafood Trio were all very fresh and wonderfully prepared. I could do without the TV's on the wall with undersized slideshow of Hawaii. Service was attentive and professional. At times we felt a little rushed. We were...

The food was amazing, AS USUAL! I had a bday dinner at Roy's in 2015, and I've loved the food, service and ambiance! I'll definitely be back!

In Hawaii, there are two things of equal importance—food and the "aloha" spirit. The blending of these two dynamic principles is how Roy’s Hawaiian Fusion Cuisine was born. European techniques and Asian cuisine meet Hawaiian hospitality to create a fine dining experience unlike any other. Where the "aloha" style of service comes straight from the heart, and where any occasion becomes an ......

Tips about this business (2)

What to Drink: Roy's sake flight offers four 1-ounce tastings of sakes: crisp "Wind" and "Sky," ginger-scented "Rain," and milky-sweet, coconut-infused "Snow" for $10.95.

The Extras: Try two entrees instead of one when you order a "mixed plate," which combines smaller portions of two entrees (like blackened tuna and macadamia-crusted whitefish) on one plate for about the same price as a regular entree.
