An Update on Theirry Rautureau's Loulay Kitchen & Bar

Since before Rover's even officially closed, The Chef in the Hat has been dropping broad hints about a new project. He's still got Luc, of course, his informal bistro at 2900 E. Madison, but he's also told a lot of folks about his new venture Loulay, in honor of his family birthplace in the Charentes-Maritimes district of western France.

We now know that it will be taking over the old Alvin...

Will Rautureau's New Restaurant Be Loulay?

Pictures on Facebook over the weekend showed the Chef and his wife celebrating their last dinner and pulling down the Rover's sign on the side of the house. If one were to believe the writing on the (Facebook) wall, the Chef's new place, long rumored, will be called Loulay (the name of the village in southwestern France where Thierry was born) and will be downtown at Sixth and Union.

As Rover's Ends, Rautureau Hints at New Restaurant

Rover's will be celebrating its last night of service on Sunday, and don't expect to be able to snag a reservation. The place is sold out.

In addition to the flavors, the presentation of the food showed alot of care and work. This was my go-to place for special occasions or if I wanted to treat...

Not in the city center, you need a cab ride to get here and reservations. Don't expect to drop by and get in. The ambiance is fantastic. Chef was there and went to every table and spoke with all the guests. That made the evening!! The food was good, some courses great and others ok.
Given that Chef Thierry has...

I can only imagine the excitement Rover's caused in the 80's... 2013 still a fair experience, but for the $$$ it just doesn't cut it. It's more about excess than refinement. The dishes are true to the French experience, but the wine pairing were not balanced. The service was probably a symphony in 1987, but have they not looked to improve... Have they not looked to improve everything.. I can...

Rover's was amazing! Sad to see them close after all these years - but looking forward to what new ventures will hold.
