Now that Memorial Day has passed, we're unofficially into summer. That means people can fashionably wear white and flip flops, and — not that this is ever out of fashion — eat burgers. For when the craving strikes for something lighter that still resembles a burger, or if you're avoiding meat altogether, here are local restaurants with unique veggie burgers on their menus.
This chill Allston spot specializes in fresh-pressed juices and wholesome, seasonal vegetarian meals, from quinoa-laden salads and sandwiches topped with exotic sauces to weekend brunch specialties like biscuits and Portobello mushroom gravy. The earthy sensibility extends to the stylishly stark space, which is done up with reclaimed wood accents and bright paintings of farmscapes.
In the Globe this week, Devra First gives Commonwealth two-and-a-half stars in an overwhelmingly positive review that reads a bit more like three stars. She praises the "clean, simple fare" which has "nothing to hide," much like Steve "Nookie" Postal in his extensive documentation of the process of opening the restaurant, published here on Eater. This place serves vegan ice cream, that's right vegan. There is no better feeling than eating something that tastes good and is also healthy for you. Also, if you're lactose intolerant this ice cream is perfect for you. They don't sacrifice flavor for health or for no use for dairy products because their ice cream is delicious.

It's great to see...
