11 Places to Dine Dairy-Free in Boston

Whether you're lactose intolerant, vegan, or just looking to cut some of your dairy intake, here are eleven local spots that are conscious of dairy-free diets. From coconut-based ice cream to vegan Chinese food, there's something for everyone.

Veg Out with These Eight Veggie Burgers

Now that Memorial Day has passed, we're unofficially into summer. That means people can fashionably wear white and flip flops, and — not that this is ever out of fashion — eat burgers. For when the craving strikes for something lighter that still resembles a burger, or if you're avoiding meat altogether, here are local restaurants with unique veggie burgers on their menus.

This chill Allston spot specializes in fresh-pressed juices and wholesome, seasonal vegetarian meals, from quinoa-laden salads and sandwiches topped with exotic sauces to weekend brunch specialties like biscuits and Portobello mushroom gravy. The earthy sensibility extends to the stylishly stark space, which is done up with reclaimed wood accents and bright paintings of farmscapes.

2.5 Globe Stars for Nookie's Commonwealth

In the Globe this week, Devra First gives Commonwealth two-and-a-half stars in an overwhelmingly positive review that reads a bit more like three stars. She praises the "clean, simple fare" which has "nothing to hide," much like Steve "Nookie" Postal in his extensive documentation of the process of opening the restaurant, published here on Eater. "The fourth wall is not just broken, it's gone,...

Hold Your Breath for These January & February Openings

There was a seemingly endless parade of new restaurants openings in late 2013, and early 2014 looks like it'll continue in the same way. From Neapolitan pizza in Fort Point to a speakeasy-style cocktail bar in the South End, here are the most exciting winter openings that are currently slated for January and February. Keep checking back; this guide will be updated as new information rolls in.

This place serves vegan ice cream, that's right vegan. There is no better feeling than eating something that tastes good and is also healthy for you. Also, if you're lactose intolerant this ice cream is perfect for you. They don't sacrifice flavor for health or for no use for dairy products because their ice cream is delicious.

For a certain crowd (You know who you are!), brunch is sometimes the only solid meal ingested come the weekend. Bedraggled boys and girls who've stayed up until sunrise will find a fresh juice menu to accompany entrees built around super foods like quinoa and sweet potatoes. Refuel at Root while you can, it may very well be another big night.

Reading the Trip-advisor reviews of this place, I got very curious.
I'm not exactly vegan, but believe there's no need for dairy. I highly appreciate any effort in making the world a better place. Especially restaurants etc can show people how to eat different and still be happy and enjoy food (and in this case deserts)
It's great to see...

I bumped into this place after another first, dinner at the vegan restaurant Grasshopper, just a block away. I had never had vegan ice cream before, but I would recommend FoMu to any skeptics of non-dairy ice cream. The creamy consistency was just the same. And the flavor--we had honey-lavender with a strong taste of coconut (all desserts are made...
