The Rookery's interior received a major renovation in 1905 by another great architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. In the 1980s, the building was threatened by developers...

From the outside, this gloomy building gives no hint of the beauty within. Designed by master architect Daniel Burnham in the 1880s, it was one of Chicago's largest and most expensive office buildings when it was completed. (The name was a carryover from the old City Hall that previously occupied the site, a favorite of roosting birds.) In 1898, a young architect starting up an independent...

I don't know enough about architecture to fully understand or appreciate what I saw. It was really beautiful and interesting...I just know I would have gotten more out of it if there had been a guide or brochure available.

If you are interested in the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, this building is worth a visit. We did not take the tour, just browsing in the area ourselves. It is stunning and definitely worthy of a little time. We stepped in the gift shop to ask a question and found the staff on duty at that time to be...

Worth a quick visit

Small space, worth a visit when getting off the train to see other things downtown. The plaques are informative, and not too intense. If you have an affinity for Frank Lloyd Wright, or or are interested in the architectural history of the city, you will not be disappointed.
