Expertly prepared seafood with Gulf Coast, Mediterranean and Asian influences reflects culinary sophistication never-before seen among Houston's high-profile restaurant scene. Imagine such delectable dishes as salted slow-baked salmon atop lemon risotto, crispy-skin snapper garnished by sweet and sour chard, grilled scallops aside truffle polenta and tempura batter-bronzed soft-shell crab...
Chef Bryan Caswell works his magic on seafood dishes with influences from around the world. Caswell – a Louisiana native who was chef de cuisine at Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s now-closed Houston hot spot, Bank – grew up in East Texas along the waters of the Gulf Coast, and his work at Reef has won numerous accolades, including being named one of Food & Wine’s best new chefs of 2009. Reef, his...
Chef Bryan Caswell, late of Bank at the Hotel Icon, re-emerges at Midtown's bustling Reef, a loud, showy seafood house packed to the gills with movers and shakers and their friends. Although the food is often a mixed bag, when it's good, it's great. Shrimp wrapped with bacon and stuffed with avocado; crispy-skin Gulf Coast snapper; and the jumbo crab cake served with taqueria-style pickled...
When a restaurant is lauded in the foodie press as one of the best in the country, it better have the chops to back it up on a consistent basis, but Reef continues to wow diners with inventive seafood dishes and top-notch service. Chef Bryan Caswell's kitchen turns out delectable dishes like slow-baked salmon with lemon risotto, grilled scallops with truffle polenta, and tempura-battered...
Chef/co-owner Bryan Caswell knows his fish. Coupled with partner Bill Floyd’s wine expertise, these two Jean-Georges Vongerichten restaurant alumni have created one of the best seafood establishments in Texas. The décor is sleek and minimal, with only a few swaths of foam green and soft blue as tip-offs to the fresh and inventive seafood on the menu. A towering glass wine wall, offering more...
When it was open prior to Hurricane Harvey, Reef was one of the top seafood restaurants in the city. My understanding is that the partnership between Chef Bryan Caswell and Front-of-the-House Manager Bill Floyd has been terminated, and that Reef will not re-open.
Bryan Caswell...
Please check before you go. This place hasn't been open since Harvey hit and only recently updated their website to include "plan to re-open by late November". We had a dinner planned in private room and had to find a new restaurant. Not sure how...
Reef is the kind of place that meets all your expectations about restaurants in the Houston area. Fantastic food, service and atmosphere are always there for enjoyment. I would highly recommend the Reef.
I have been to the reef several times and I never had a disapointed meal.oth food and service are great.
It's the first and only Caswell restaurant I have been too, but if its any indication of the others (El Real, Jackson Street BBQ, Little Big 5) I would try them all. The menu is only fresh fish and caught from the gulf. The wine...

Featured on Food Network's, "The Next Iron Chef" owner Bryan Caswell has made quite the name for himself at this popular eatery. Self-proclaimed as the "finest seafood restaurant" in Houston, Reef comes very close to its description. Offering customers a wide variety of seafood, the restaurant packs in crowds of people. Typically bustling with people during the major dining hours, customers can...
