One of the best downtown Durham lunch spots. Made to order, creative and loaded with great tastes. I highly recommend ordering from whatever the daily special is, I've never been disappointed.

Pompieri Pizza is located in the historic fire station #1 in downtown Durham, right next to Dos Perros. The building was built in 1890. It’s an appropriate location since these pizzas are cooked in an open wood-fired pizza oven that can be viewed from the dining room.

A cute (but also practical) shtick of Pompieri's is to serve each individual pizza unsliced (a la Italia) but with a pair of kitchen shears for the diner to cut their own slices. Cute. Pompieri also features to yummy natural soda fountain, a bar, and of course, the beers created by their sister establishment Bull City Brewery. My verdict? Overall, Pompieri is very authentic and worth the trip...

Our two pies show up and they look very nice. My pork belly shows up sans cheese and is dotted with chunks of meat and a handful of cracklins.
