Help us make it rightIt's far from the lights of the Strip, but on Friday nights, Pogo's becomes the heart of old Vegas, as players from the city's golden era swing together for a steamy jazz jam session, proving that, while those days may be gone, they're certainly not dead. The bar also pays homage in the decor—the big, red booths were salvaged from the recently-imploded Frontier. Non-Friday nights find an older,...

Walking into Pogo's Tavern is like walking onto a stage set. Every classic bar element is in evidence--big vinyl booths with lava-red candle holders, ancient lighted signs...
This is for the post-remodel Pogo's which has completely lost all of the flavor that this venerable old dive once had. I miss the Pogo's of yesteryear, with dirt cheap drinks and old codgers that...
I went to check out the renovation. It is closed and for lease. Note to Yelp-this is a valid review. It was a bad experience because they are out of business!
New ownership bought the place and remodeled the entire joint. The jazz has gone away, now they have some Hawaiian band on Friday nights. Advertise that they have Murphy's Irish Red but never do. Had Labatt, but I think that they took that away too. It's now a Buffalo Bar, as the two owners are from Buffalo suburbs. One is from Tonawanda, I'm not sure about the other. All-in-all, it's a decent place as per all of the reviews on the Internet pre 2009, this place isn't the swinging jazz joint that your granpa raved about. It's a blue-collar carbon copy of most bars in this city. I guess you...
We went to the Friday night jazz jam after a day of hiking at Zion. We wanted to relax and experience a bit of Las Vegas off the strip. While the cab ride was long (fast but pricey), the experience was a highlight of our trip. The regulars were extremely friendly. The music was great. Plus the drink prices were a welcome site in Vegas. I would highly recommend the trip if you need a break from the usual Vegas itineraries.
Pros

Pogos Tavern can be found at N Decatur Blvd 2103. The following is offered: Bars & Pubs. The entry is present with us since Sep 8, 2010 and was last updated on Nov 14, 2013. In Las Vegas there are 264 other Bars & Pubs. An overview can be found here.
As the friday night jam sessions continue at Pogo's I'm amazed at the amount of great talent that continusly shows up to play their horns and enjoy the other musicians. This past friday we had three GREAT alto sax players who induvidually and collectivly blew the walls out. No ego problems, they all leave the egos at the door when they come in. Its great to not only play music with these people...

Nominated for Best Local Tradition, thanks to 20 years of Friday-night jazz jams.
Don't feel shy about calling out requests, as the band will be more than happy to play them (whether they know them or not).
