Once a "small secret" kept by locals in the know, this elegant boutique gem, sandwiched between Fort Lauderdale beach and the Intracoastal Waterway, rarely falls below capacity since it invariably lands on reader's choice lists year after year. The design recalls the colorful architecture of 18th-century British colonial Caribbean plantations. Most rooms have views of the Intracoastal Waterway...

It took me awhile to discover this hotel -- and apparently that's exactly the point. One of Fort Lauderdale's best-kept secrets, the Pillars transports you from the neon-hued flash and splash of Fort Lauderdale's strip and takes you to a two-story British colonial, Caribbean-style retreat tucked away on the bustling Intracoastal Waterway. Because it has just 22 rooms, you'll feel as if you have...

The Bottom Line: Peaceful, romantic plantation-style hideaway for adults just a block from the beach. Guest Rooms and Rates: From $149.

The Scene

We had a night to stay over in ft lauderdale en route home from the Bahamas to LA with our toddler. The pillars was a heavenly respite!! Will definitely stay again. The waterfront suite was perfect for our little family with doors that close between the two rooms. Xo

The setting of the Pillars is amazing and its unusual to get such a small hotel in the USA. We were upgraded to a suite on arrival which was great. Our stay at the Pillars was the start of a 10 day trip for my husbands 60th birthday and what a fantastic start. When we moved on to other hotels...
