This is a little house replicating the old "pest house" where people with contagious diseases were sent before the Civil War. It was used during the Civil War as a hospital. You look in the windows and listen to recordings. It is hard to see in the windows. This site is in Old City Cemetery.

This museum is in a cemetery. It is a small house with a garden around it. You look inside through the windows. Has button activated recording that tells about the house and the gardens.

My husband was a doctor and it was interesting to see how far we have come in the last 150 years. This is on the grounds of the Old City Cemetary.

Very Sobering History Lesson

Awesome place to visit. Especially like the bee-hives at the admin. building. Lynchburg appears to be missing a LOT of bees. Very pretty place and the history lesson is so interesting. Don't miss the cemetery and the rose garden with roses going back to 1730's. Awesome.

Located at one end of Lynchburg's Old City Cemetery, The Pest House Medical Museum was the workspace of Dr. John Jay Terrell, a renowned physician from the the late 19th Century. The exhibits feature his medical apparatuses and furniture.
