The parking lot's always hopping--there's a Plaid Pantry sharing the building--but inside is calm, cool and comfortable. The menu is enormous and long on vegetarian options....
Very friendly staff and good food, open relatively late. read more »
We chose this place because it's just down the street from home in Sellwood. I checked this site for their hours and saw some bad reviews from a few years ago. Well, either those people were just very unlucky or things have changed a lot because our experience was wonderful.
We ordered the combination appetizer plate to start with. Each little edible was as good as the previous. It didn't take too long to get to us and we didn't have much of a chance to really dig into it before our food arrived. I ordered the tom kha soup, minus mushrooms add ginger. AMAZING. Exactly what I had...
The service was quite good, its obviously a small family affair and while not fast you do feel welcome. Also regulars do get perks - like several mothers I know often get orders delivered to their cars when they have their kids with them.
The food is quite good - no MSG here. Pad thai is quite good. Fried rice with pineapple was quite tasty. So overall 4 stars.
We really like the food & calm, laid back atmosphere at Papaya Thai. The service can be a bit slow (they make things to order instead of dishing out of a big bowl in the back). For us the quality is definitely worth the wait.
The staff are always pleasant & cheerful; they always seem happy to see folks and embody the sort of gentle courtesy that is the essence of Thai culture.
I probably wouldn't bring a large group here since it is very much a family restaurant with a small and busy kitchen, but for our family of 5 it's always been just fine. We get the chance to enjoy some...
Papaya Thai is the best Thai food in Portland. The portions are generous and the flavors are amazing! The staff is always warm and friendly and we've gotten free salad rolls the past few times we've ordered take-out. We eat there at least several times a month and have never been disappointed.
Papaya Thai Restaurant can be found at Se Milwaukie Ave 7202. The following is offered: Restaurants: Thai. The entry is present with us since Sep 8, 2010 and was last updated on Nov 14, 2013. In Portland there are 42 other Restaurants: Thai . An overview can be found here.
The parking lot's always hopping--there's a Plaid Pantry sharing the building--but inside is calm, cool and comfortable. The menu is enormous and long on vegetarian options. Curry puffs filled with tofu are flavorful and elegant. The coconut-milk soup with chicken arrives subtly perfumed with lime leaves and lemon grass. Pad Thai is served in generous portions. Though the restaurant prepares seafood and meats quite well, a mix of vegetarian entrees is a compelling alternative.
