It's Special

Had a fabulous meal here the other week. And the service is outstanding. The plating is spectacular and the food is divine. What I don't like about this resto is that you need to wait for other customer finish their meal before you can avail your reservation.

Justin Yu On the Menu Changes Coming to Oxheart

Get ready to see a change at one of Houston's most acclaimed restaurants. Over the weekend, Eater National chatted with Texas' Best New Chefs during the Food & Wine Classic in Aspen. Matt McCallister (FT33, Dallas), Paul Qui (Qui, Austin) and Houston's own Oxheart chef and co-owner Justin Yu shared their thoughts on fine dining and Texas cuisine. That's where Yu mentioned that he would be...

Three Houston Chefs Are James Beard Award Finalists

Last month the James Beard Foundation announced this year's semifinalists, and the names of the finalists were broadcast via a livestream earlier today. Houston scored big with a relatively lengthy list of names. In the Best Chef Southwest (AZ, CO, NM, OK, TX, UT) category are Hugo Ortega (Hugo's), Chris Shepherd (Underbelly) and Justin Yu (Oxheart). This is Yu's first nomination, and both...

Here Are Houston's 2014 James Beard Semifinalists

The James Beard Foundation announced the 2014 Restaurant and Chef Awards semifinalists. By Tuesday, March 18, 2014 this long list will be narrowed down to a list of finalists, and on Monday, May 5, 2014 the winners will be announced at the James Beard Foundation Awards in New York City. Houston contenders include some familiar names: Anvil Bar & Refuge was nominated for Outstanding Bar Program,...

Vote for Houston's Restaurant of the Year

Next Monday, Eater will present the 2013 Eater Awards, our fourth annual celebration of all that's made America's restaurant world run—and run wild—in the past twelve months. Winners will be selected on both the local and national levels in five major categories, the voting for which begins right now.

Here's how the voting works across the board: Eater editors have named nominees for each of...

Shilcutt and Yu On the Oxheart Accessibility Article

It's always unfortunate when a wheelchair-bound, would-be patron attempts to enter a restaurant only to find that he or she can't be adequately accommodated. Throw in some familiar names and a nationally renowned restaurant, and the story immediately blows up. When Houstonia Magazine features editor Katharine Shilcutt's friend couldn't enter Oxheart because of his wheelchair, she wrote a story...

Pure culinary artistry in as unassuming a setting as you can imagine, with a welcoming and knowledgeable staff. Sure, it seems expensive if you judge it by the pound, but if you think of it as a ticket to dinner and a Cirque de Soleil show's worth of astonishing flavor acrobatics, it's a good evening's entertainment deal!

One hint: go for the Garden Menu. Chef Yu's passion and creativity are...

food is amazingly creative, you cannot find food like this at a generic, 'popular' restaurant that serves the same thing every single day with no changes. The wine pairing was very beneficial. I would not recommend this if you are looking for standard fair. I love that this place took over this spot and they did an amazing job with the decor. I used to know the woman who owned this place back...
