Editorial reviews from the web (2)

Eclectic, globally accented food comes at moderate prices and is paired with specialty cocktails and soda concoctions at this stylish, spacious eatery from Billy Lawless (Henri, The Gage). The wood-clad and warmly lit River West spot has two levels of dining, a denim-themed lounge, three bars and two fireplaces (one in the outdoor seating area).

The Dawson is a west town restaurant, bar, and gathering place celebrating the craft of food, drink and hospitality.

Memories of the 19th Century are preserved at The Dawson, which is housed in a historic complex. Replete with French windows, wooden decor and comforting fireplaces, this restaurant offers nostalgic American cuisine, under the purview of chefs Billy Lawless and Patrick Russ. Some of their dishes are infused with modern flavors, creating an intriguing melange. Guests can savor appetizers such as...

This expansive, two-level Irish-themed bar features exposed brick and a dark wood bar and accents. Tasteful decorations pay homage to Ireland as well as the colorful history of legendary O'Sullivan's Tavern that used to be on this spot. Nearly a dozen brews on tap include Goose Island and seriously good pour of Guinness. The food menu includes cabbage, stews, steaks, burgers, appetizers, and...

Tips about this business (3)

Know Before You Go

Reservations aren't accepted, and parties cannot be seated until all members arrive. If you go on the weekend--when the restaurant tends to be packed--make your 30- to 40-minute wait go more quickly with a bloody mary next door at Butterfly Social Club, open for cocktails Saturday and Sunday, 11am-3pm.

When to Go

Saturday and Sunday is when everybody and their best friend is on display here, so grab your pals or amour and hit it between the busy, yet prime time for people watching (8am-10am; 1pm-3pm) to book a table.

Parking

Valet parking, $5 during brunch hours on Saturday and Sunday (8am-3pm) and $10 Thursday through Saturday during late-night dining hours (6pm-4am), allows you and your party to arrive in style and avoid the hassle of looking for parking in a neighborhood where open spots are rare.
