This house is on the National Historical Register. It was owned by Henry Dering in 1789 who was a soldier in the Revolutionry War. He came from Lancaster, PA, and ran this as a tavern. He was my ancestor. I asked the operators, on one visit, if I could go upstairs. Nothing up there but storage now. So treat it kindly and say nice things about it.

Built in 1795, the Old Stone House is the oldest building in Monongalia County. Since being erected, it has contained a number of services and is currently a gift shop. Visitors can take in the heritage building as they look at unique gifts, with some of the proceeds going back to the community. It is open Monday through Friday from 10am to 2pm and Saturday from 9:30am to 4:30pm.

Built in 1795, the Old Stone House is the oldest building in Monongalia County. Since being erected, it has acted as a tavern, a pottery studio, a leather tannery, a church, a tailor shop and a home. Currently the Old Stone House is a gift shop, allowing visitors to take in the heritage building as they looking at unique gifts. Much of the proceeds go back to the upkeep on the house.
