The Big Bear Alpine Zoo is a rehabilitation facility offering injured, orphaned and imprinted wild animals a safe haven; temporarily while they heal or permanently as they are unable to survive on their own.
We are extremely proud that 90% of all the animals brought to us for rehabilitation are successfully released back into their native environment.

This rescue and rehabilitation center specializes in animals native to the San Bernardino Mountains. Among its residents are black and (nonnative) grizzly bears, bald eagles, coyotes, beavers, mountain lions, grey wolves, and bobcats. An animal presentation takes place daily at noon and a feeding tour daily (except Wednesday) at 3.
Go once and you'll be hooked. The animals are rescues. And the folks working there have a true love for caring for all the critters. Make sure you attend one of the live enrichment shows. We stayed for a few hours! Can't believe we didn't visit sooner.
A great sanctuary for injured animals. Unlike other zoos, you can see these animals pretty close up. The fund-raiser pamphlets tell you all about each animal there, so it made the experience more personal, we loved reading about who the animals were and how they ended up as permanent residents there. Big Bear Alpine Zoo is a rehabilitation facility for Alpine Animals. Those that can be released back into the wild are, and those that are unable to care for themselves are given a permanant home with us and are used to educate the public on the importance of caring for our wildlife.
