Terrible people, failing business

Melly and her family are unbelievable (in a bad way). My wife and I had planned a reception and paid the full balance 6 months in advance. A month later, we had to cancel due to financial considerations and asked for a refund expecting Melly would retain a deposit like most places. When we ask for a refund, she says that they have a "No Refunds" policy and that our money had already been "reinvested" in the business. Her mother also insulted my wife in Spanish.

After a bit of haggling, she finally agreed to refund our money less a 15%-ish deposit, but that we'd have to wait until the date our event was scheduled to get the full amount. Every single time we called for her monthly payment, we got evasive responses and doubletalk. Finally, a few days after the date of the event, she said she wasn't going to pay us back at all and hung up on me; then, she called me back to curse at me one more time.

With that said, she did refund roughly 30% of the total balance over the course the repeated phone calls and visits to her store. Melly's is the only store we had any trouble getting a refund from of the vendors we had deposits with. (Edited January 25, 2011)
