Founded in 1891, the Massachusetts Maritime Academy is the oldest such school in the country. Future members of the merchant marine receive their training at its 55-acre campus in Buzzards Bay. The library has nautical paintings and scale models of ships from the 18th century to the present and is open to the public at no charge. For a tour of the academy, call two days in advance.
