Our customer in Italy purchased a The Loar LM600VS mandolin and is so pleased with it that he made a video that he posted on YouTube. All items subject to prior sale not responsible for typographical errors. ,
I took my 30 year old Martin D-35L guitar to this shop based on their reputation. I was stunned when I got it back after a simple setup job. I found not only 1, but 2 scratches that obviously were the result of careless, sloppy workmanship. One was parallel to the bridge saddle (indicating a slip of a sharp tool while working on the unprotected surface). The other was a long scratch on the headstock (again due to sloppy work while working on the nut). An attempt was made to try and buff this one out, only to make matters worse by creating a sheen on the otherwise mat finish. The owner tried to snow me with some song and dance about every transaction being an exchange, where I leave something of me, and they of them, like shaking hands. What a crock! Then he tried to get me to sign a non-disclosure agreement (to prevent a posting like this one) to get a refund. His lawyer just so happened to be there at the time. I refused to sign and walked out empty handed. He called me later that evening and agreed to send the refund, which he did. Never again would I entrust them with my treasured instruments.
Staten Island seems an unlikely place to find the best selection of anything, let alone fine acoustic guitars and assorted instruments of the like, but Mandolin Brothers has been doing it for long enough that no one bats an eyelash anymore. Their selection of vintage instruments is so enticing that if you've got the money to spend, you'll be relieved of it before you leave!
Mandolin Bros. has treated me like a real person on every transaction! Always professional!
I am very proud to have purchased four mandolins through Mandolin Brothers and Stan Jay: a beginner's mid-Missouri, A Breedlove, a Rigel A model and a Rigel R100. I have been extremely satisfied with the instruments. The prices and service offered at Mandolin Brothers receive very high marks from me for reasonableness and for value for dollar.
I've acquired two very exceptionally nice guitars* from Mando' Bro's, over several years, and both experiences have been as exceptional as the guitars themselves. Stan and Alison are very accessible and accommodating, and their shipments are bomb-proof. I'd give them a "!0+" for both their service and their selection of wonderful instruments.
And I always love reading their prosaic instrument...
For being called Mandolin Bros, they have an awfully lithe collection of quality mandolins. Inexplicably, NO mandolas, NO octave mandolins and only one round-back--which was dead as a doornail. They have half a dozen higher quality mandolin...
This store has more rare and vintage guitars, banjos, and mandolins than you are likely to find in one place anywhere else, at least in this part of the country. Shopping here is like being a kid in a???
