Editorial reviews from the web (4)

"Charming" owner Lucien Bahaj's East Village French "favorite" rolls out "first-rate bistro" classics and a "convivial" vibe that will "take you to Paris in a flash"; ok, it's on the "cramped" side, but tell that to its regulars who "leave with a smile every time."

A French bistro in the West Village, serving cuisine with traditional gems like escargots de bourgogne, moules mariniére traditionnelle, and Marseille-style bouillabaisse alongside a full wine list.

One of NY's best small, cheap(er) bistros. Rules its loyal clientele with love. Steak frites, escargot, raw bar, and rabbit in Dijon mustard. Narrow, intimate space with requisite scratchy mirrors and miniscule bar. Snuggle in for an evening of Parisian passion. Late-night dining has been the opening scene of many an on-the-spur seduction. Has challengers for authenticity, but they're uptown...

A piece of France in NYC

Average Rating

We asked the staff at our hotel desk where to go to eat steak and a fellow guest who overheard immediately recommended Lucien. It's a small and intimate place. Don't expect space around your table. But we were treated really well by the staff, and we loved the steak frites (which - at New York prices - was good value),...

A typical French-style Bistro

If you are looking for an authentic French bistro with foie gras, escargots, rabit, steak tartare and tarte tatin on the menu, Lucien is your kind of place. Nothing pretentious there. It's family style and cozy (to the point you almost touch the next table... as it is in any good Parisian bistro). Very friendly service. Interesting and reasonably priced...

Wonderful little place! As soon as they served me some french bread, I felt at home. The food is very tasty and the ambiance is very chill. The food is a bit more expensive than the average meal (i guess) but it's so good! La tarte tintin was to die for! service is also amazing

A Great LITTLE French Bistro

I took my wife, stepson and his girlfriend to dinner at Lucien at the beginning of his 30th birthday week. WHAT A FIND! Although small, crowded and cramped, there was undeniable energy throughout the restaurant that literally screamed out: FUN!
That said, the food is the star of the show. Every dish that we ordered was absolutely top notch French...

Beautiful food, the best tarte tatin I've ever tasted and exceptional service. We discovered Lucien after our reservation at Prune along the road was not honoured and we were delighted to find this little gem. We can't wait to return to Lucien when we visit NYC again. Thanks to the delightful hostess who made us feel like part of the...
