30... What a great way to spend a Friday or Saturday night! This is not the original location but Louie Bertola's is a Bay Area institution. Better check it out before they replace it with an Applebee's; ugh!

I have loved Bertola's for many years, but when I was treated to dinner for my birthday a couple days ago, it seemed so different. The waiter was sassy with an attitude. I really don't write these too often, but in some cases it is necessary. To write an honest review I have to give you a little Bertola's history. I used to eat at the original Louie Bertola's location in Oakland when I was a kid with my family. Let me tell you, the food was good, the environment was pleasing and the service was excellent. There was a real pride to the establishment and the food was honest home-style italian, made fresh. Boy how times have changed.

Bertola's has a long history in the East Bay. Read all of the reviews and many seem to be written by stuck-up jerks. If you want a 5-Star restaurant, find one and spend $70-80 for dinner. If you want a fun experience with real people, go to Bertola's in downtown Martinez. The food and the service are very good and consistent. The food is just ok. I think Mac's Old House in Antioch is better. Same type of place. If Bertola's upped their game a little I'd go more often.
