Carribean (Cuban/Puerto Rican/Dominican) Food
Merging these three cultures that compliment each other so well is not found often, with most Carribean cuisines encompassing Jamaican and other Carribean islands' foods. The entrees are unique and authentic, creatively presented (the mofongo entree was served in a 9 inch tall hollowed out tiki), and I was impressed to see Chinese Style Cuban Roast Pork (Cuba has a China Town and a very strong Asian influence). But after four visits the preparation turned inconsistent with a heavy hand on some ingredient (salt in one case) that overpowered what was a potentially fantastic creation. Soups, salads, appetizers, remain consistently fresh and delicious. The dining is large with two story ceilings, yet intimate. The value seems reasonable, with the exception of a codfish fritter appetizer priced at $10 for 4 tiny pieces of breaded cod (and not a fritter at all).
The desserts we've tried were a huge let down. The "banana rum bread pudding" turned out to be what looked like a dried out cinnamon bun with cream sauce poured over it. We couldn't eat it. The pineapple coconut cake seemed stale.
The staff is friendly, but not the best trained, and tend to be inefficient when they're crowded.
We really hope Lola's works on its few loose ends, because the cuisine is unique and overdue.

Lola's is probably the best exotic restaurant you will find in Norfolk. The food is a Caribbean fusion with influences from all over.
I can't recommend a dish because I have never eaten a bad one, they are all good. If you're looking for a place to escape the usual dullness of most Norfolk restaurants, this is it.

Visited Lola s for mothers day...had the ropa vieja it was so good. It was great...the Tostones was scrumptious...I have one complaint sassy too much garlic, yet the food was delish.
Being a native of the Caribbean I was excited to find that there was a Caribbean restaurant that served Cuban, Dominican and Puerto Rican food in Norfolk. The previous guy who reviewed this restaurant must not enjoy authentic puerto rican and Cuban cuisine. The food is outstanding and my wife, who grew up in Ponce, Puerto Rico, thoroughly enjoys the restaurant. The only reason I gave it four stars is the price of the food. Other than that it is the only place I've found in Norfolk my wife considers authentic
