At first glance, it was a hole in the wall, but then noticed the steady stream of people walking in+out with take out bags. Figured if 10 locals in 10 mins walking in+out should be half...
L&L came highly recommended by our son and even though the place was clean and the food smelled fantastic, it just was not the flavors we were looking for. We prefer the tradional style Pork.
We walked in with our family (18 of us). They truly knew how to deal with a big group. They made no mistakes on the order. Food was standard hawaiian plate lunch fare. No surprises.
L&L is better in HI than in the states. It was about 1030 and they still made my eggs and spam breakfast combo. It was good considering I only paid $6.99 for it. It was filling and worth eating at if you have a large number to people in our group or if you are watching our money.
If you're looking for good local dining ... you can't go wrong with L & L. A huge menu we've never been disappointed with the food or the service. Especially recommend Kalbi short ribs, teriyaki beef/chicken, katsu chicken, et al.
There are more than two dozen of these establishments around the islands, in addition to many imitators sporting subtle changes to the name like P & L, L & R, and B & L Drive-Inns. However, they say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, and it indeed pays to be on the lookout for the original L & L Drive-Inns as they are home to some great no frills inexpensive Hawaiian cuisine.
