In 1974, businessman Joseph Yesutis fulfilled a life-long dream by purchasing the Lindy's Chili Company and the Gertie's Ice Cream Company. This dream, however, did not include putting the two concepts together. Only after analyzing the unique qualities of each business did he conceive of his remarkable innovation.

Gertie's started serving ice cream in 1901, and Lindy's started serving chili in 1924. In the mid-1970s, a local entrepreneur purchased both businesses and combined them into a legendary Chicago chain. Tasty chili is reportedly made from the original recipe, and creamy ice-cream treats include banana splits made with real fruit. Open daily 10 am-11 pm. -
