The library began on Dec. 14, 1929 as a collection of books housed in the basement of the City Hall. In 1945 a referendum was held to establish the library as a village library, which became part of the annual village levy. The Lemont Public Library is one of the village's true gems. Utilized regularly by the community, the library features thousands of books, DVDs, CDs and other items as well as a number of services.
