What the community has to say about Le Lan Restaurant

Information about this business (1)

The unassuming exterior of Le Lan belies the wonderful dining experience to be found within. Two of the city’s most acclaimed chefs – Roland Liccioni of Le Francais (who also revitalized Les Nomades and spent several years at Carlos’) and Arun Sampanthavivat of Arun’s – join forces at Le Lan to produce a menu of exquisite, modern French-Vietnamese fare. Start with the delicate and delicious...

So you're trying to woo a significant other. You've done Le Colonial to death and Trotter's and Alinea are just a bit out of your price range. Le Lan should be the next obvious choice, with its romantic setting filled with fresh floral arrangements, conversation-friendly appeal and minimalist design. The menu aptly complements the unpretentious vibe with delicate offerings of French-Vietnamese...

Is it possible for two high-caliber chefs to run a kitchen and not shoot each other in the food? Consulting chefs Roland Liccioni (Les Nomades) and Arun Sampanthavivat (Arun's) are giving it a go at this smart spot, which brought in executive chef Bill Kim (formerly of Trio and Charlie Trotter’s) to man the kitchen. Price is a consideration at French-Vietnamese Le Lan (which means the...

this is one of my favorite restaurant.for the simple reason is that the food is outstanding. the service was fast.

Wow! This is what French-Asian fusion should be. Thought we were maybe in Hong Kong. The duck was to die for, the hanger steak tender and delicious. The underlying concept is French, then the herbs and accompaniments (seaweed salad and fried beans, just spectacular) and other flavors like lemongrass take you to Asia. Remarkable desserts and a very intelligent and well-priced wine list. This...

We went on a Tuesday. Cute little place. Good food with just the right about heat. Serving size could be a bit more.

The 9 course dinner was excellent; they served each of us (total of 3) a different item with each course so we could share; very expensive; one time shot; wine suggestions were good, not great; will return for a regular meal next time in Chicago; scallops were the best then the duck.

Competition for Le Colonial

There really aren't many restaurants that do the French Asian cuisine. There's Viet places, but I mean the more elegant French Asian fusion, for which Le Colonial has a fine reputation. Here's what Le Colonial doesn't have: a chef named Chad Starling. He's really doing some fine things in Le Lan's kitchen. I can't wait to go back for more. I went on a Friday night, somewhat concerned that I was underdressed and that the place would be too crowded. It was nice-but-casual, and not too crowded -- just right. I was alone, so I sat at the bar. The house Riesling is delicious. Chef Chad...

Business description (3)

An Asian-inspired decor paves the way for French and Vietnamese cuisine. Appetizers include coconut mango sticky rice and roasted hearts of palm. Dishes are prepared with creative attention to detail. Entrees (mostly $25-$33) include Asian Spiced Beef Tenderloin with bok choy, Chinese long beans, quinoa, and red wine sauce, as well as Roasted Rack of Lamb with Red Curried Loin with fennel...

Its name means "the orchid" in French, and simple decor and unique Vietnamese-French fusion fare live up to the elegant moniker.
