What the community has to say about Le Cafe Miche

Information about this business (5)

Restaurant

Le Café Miche brought French country cuisine to the Albuquerque fine dining scene in 1976. The restaurant was purchased in 1996 by Claus and Linda Hjortkjaer (pronounced YORT-care), who twice have expanded the café to meet growing customer demand. In the past five years, they've transformed Le Café Miche from a tiny nine-table café to its current capacity of about 90 diners. The café now...

Traditional French recipes, fresh local ingredients and a library of aged wines creates a dining experience unlike anything in the Southwest. For something unique, try one of the Cooking Classes held every Tuesday evening or the 3 course Wine and Culinary Adventure on Thursdays.

Editorial reviews from the web (1)

Le Café Miche, from Danish chef Claus Hjortkjaer (pronounced YORT-care) and his wife, Linda, is a friendly place that greets every guest with a complimentary snack of the house pâté to nibble on while studying the menu. Hjortkjaer's Scandinavian heritage shows in sly ways, like pairing pickled red cabbage with house-made pâté, or his legendary gravlax, a dish of cured salmon served with a...

Incredible food and the most wonderful total dining experience. An dedicated chef running his own restaurant with knowledgeable, flamboyant and fun wait staff. I cannot believe we found this gem in downtown Albuquerque 3 blocks from the Hyatt. This place is small with European atmosphere and worth the trip to New Mexico just to eat here. Good wines fairly priced...

Le Cafe Miche is a tiny restaurant specializing in old style country French cooking--duck a l'orange, beef Bourguignon, etc. The ambiance is atmospheric including the requisite accordionist playing French tunes. And then there is the flamboyant Danish (?) chef/owner clad in red beret, floral pants and chef's jacket who greets you tableside with an aperitif, amuse bouche and over-the-top...

We were on a tour in downtown and happened to meet Chef outside his restaurant. He was on an afternoon break after prepping for dinner and, at our request, kindly described the evening specials. He started with lobster crepes and tomato basil soup before an entree of cracked pepper ribeye with a Dijon mustard. We decided right then we had...

We fond this little gem whilst staying in Alburquerque and I'm so glad we did. We spotted it whilst walking past and so we called in to book for that evening. The waiter made us feel extremely welcome and, not familiar with Alburquerque were instantly put at ease. It is beautifully decorated and small enough so it felt very intimate...

First of all, we were led there by a local we stopped on the streets of Albuquerque. He had cool looking dogs so we knew he'd know a good place to eat. He kindly walked us to this absolute rare gem of a place. The owner greeted us and begin regaling us with appeterif, hors d'oeuvres, in this jewel box...
