Parisian Café with Bistro favorites located in the West Loop.
Jean-Claude Poilevey (Le Bouchon) continues to lure crowds into this tiny Parisian café (hence the name) with high ceilings and an airy feel. The menu is filled with hints of excitement and plenty of the familiar, properly executed classics. Dishes to look for include roasted chicken with potato purée or sautéed sweetbreads with macaroni and spinach. As for the straight and narrow dishes ---...
"Consistently first-rate bistro food with a distinctly French feel" can be found at this "moderate" West Loop Parisian, where the menu boasts "ample" portions of "comfort food your grand-mère would make", including "to-die-for" soufflés; "no-pretense" service and a "warm", "crowded" space that is "larger and easier to navigate" than sister restaurant Le Bouchon further lead fans to "highly...
Companion restaurant to Le Bouchon, this restaurant's brightly painted pillars and bustling dining room create a communal feel among its mostly over-35 diners. That makes standing at the bar a little tenser than it might otherwise be because the room is well-lit and it feels like everyone is staring at you. Jitters recede after being seated with a good cab and some snails burgundy.
Sister to Jean-Claude Poilevey's popular Le Bouchon (and named after a critic's description of that tiny Bucktown bistro), this is a more spacious and gracious destination, with an open, airy feel. Well-prepared versions of bistro standards include the delicate bouillabaisse in a lobster-saffron broth; rabbit stew with mushrooms; steak frites; sensational escargots bourguignon; onion soup; and...
The Scene
A sister bistro to the ever-popular Le Bouchon in Bucktown, La Sardine was hip long before this now-booming neighborhood was, and continues to thrive because of its great food... Pros + great pricesfriendly atmosphere Cons - can be loudcongested tables
The food is hands-down the best French food in Chicago that I have had as of late — and I include the sister restaurant Le Bouchon in the number one slot with La Sardine. Seating is close, a rather European effect, so be forewarned if you go. Make a reservation because the energy is high. Go on an empty stomach, don’t be in a rush to stuff yourself, and be prepared to experience sin with all...
So good. Started with lobster bisque, moved to the smoked salmon and bouillabaisse. Ended with the chocolate mousse and latte. Def going back here.
Visiting Chicago for medical conference and really wanted to experience good food unlike what I could get at home. I spent a lot of time reading about different restaurants, and decided that...
Disappointing. We visited this past winter, because they offer a chocolate souffle for dessert. Technically that is true -- what they serve has the puffed up souffle appearance. But unlike...
Top-notch French cuisine with a menu offering classic dishes in addition to inventive daily specials. In my opinion, the menu is very reasonably priced for the portion sizes and quality of the food. Service is always warm and professional. It's not flashy or trendy, but this West Loop gem is one of our favorite restaurants in the neighborhood.

Enjoy classic bistro fare prepared with flair. Menu includes a satisfying pate dish served with beet salad, mushroom ragout served over mashed potatoes in a rich herb sauce, fresh fish options, and roast chicken served with an array of vegetables. An extensive wine list has something for everyone's price range....
If you're in the mood for French cuisine look no further than La Sardine. There is a nice selection of dishes, including Le Steak Grillé Maître d'Hôtel (Grilled Steak), Le Saumon Poché (Poached Salmon) and Les Ravioli Vegetariens (Vegetarian Ravioli in Sage Vegetable Broth). Don't forget about dessert with options such as Vanilla Bean Créme Brülée and Molten Chocolate Cake.
The sister restaurant to the more formal Le Bouchon, La Sardine is a warmer version of classic French cuisine. Dark wood and brass replace crystal and soft color while the open, bustling kitchen beckons with culinary treasures. Choose from rotisserie meats and game, grilled steak with pommes frites (French fries) and leek with bacon tart. The Lyonaisse salad with its croutons is a fan favorite...
A crammed room sometimes means bottlenecks of diners and servers, especially in the center aisle. Request a table in the front or along the side.
On Mondays, all bottles of wine are half-price. And on Tuesdays, choose any appetizer, entree and dessert for $22.
Smoking is always allowed at the bar; there's also a smoking section every day except Tuesdays and Saturdays.
